What a day! For any of you who don't know what COSHH stand for: Controll of Substances Hazardous to Health.
So this was the lecture we had for the first half instead of a dem. And honestly, after this rather drastic portrail of what can happen in a kitchen if you are not careful with chemicals certainly turned my stomac a bit.
I don't want to go into detail as it really was shocking. But let me just say this:
If you spill something, clean it up.
Wear gloves for washing up. (You might not think it's dangerous. But washing up liquid can cause permanent damage to your skin and leave you with a chronicle illness! - Everybody is wearing gloves in class now! Believe me!)
Once we had recovered from this. The next "punch in the gut" was waiting for us in the second half of the dem class: COSTING! Yeay!
I don't mind maths. Really. However, this calculation business - calculating pennies for pinches of salt - makes me not want to work in catering. This is the last of my ambitions anyway. But maybe you just have to get used to it. So, no use in moaning - we have a costing excersice to do in pairs. Thus, lets get out the calculator!
